Semi-permanent mold release agents chemically bond to tooling surfaces through a curing mechanism (heat for water based products and humidity for solvent based products).  As a result, parts released from prepped tooling are essentially free of release agent residues and can be painted or bonded with minimum cleaning.  Tools generally provide many releases between reapplication of release agent.
